Who is Peter Gwinn?
Peter Gwinn is an American comedy writer and improvisor from Evanston, Illinois, best known for his work as a writer and performer on ‘The Colbert Report’. A graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, MN, Peter went on to train in the art of improvisation by Charna Halpern and Del Close at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic Theatre. Peter has taught improv at both the ImprovOlympic and Upright Citizens Brigade theaters, and is the founding member of the musical improv group ‘Baby Wants Candy’. In addition to teaching improv and sketch comedy, Peter has also performed with ‘Harold team Arsenal’, ‘The Stepfathers”, ‘Let’s Have a Ball’, ‘Gravid Water’ and authored the book ‘Group Improvisation: The Manual of Ensemble Improv Games’.
The Group Mind, the Holy Grail of improvisation, is created by a synergy among improv participants. It’s like ESP. It’s the feeling of being part of a greater entity, a sense of excitement, belonging, importance that takes teamwork to a new level. Over forty improv games are included for developing group chemistry: creation, bonding, dynamics, energy, focus and more. Techniques are discussed for breaking the ice, agreement, listening and support, teamwork, quick thinking and having fun!
