A Look Back: One Last TCR Thanksgiving for 2014

Welcome to “A Look Back,” where we review and celebrate select clips from the overwhelmingly voluminous video catalog and the many splendid works of Stephen T. Colbert over the years.

Happy Thanksgiving, Hubsters! I hope our U.S. community members are having a great time with family and friends. I am preparing to deep-fry a turkey for the first time, so keep me in your thoughts/prayers. We may be ordering take out if all else fails.

Although I am doing my best domestic diva impression, thoughts of TCR and its impending finale loom heavily in my mind….how about you guys? I haz a sad, especially with the holidays upon us.

I thought it would be nice to review some great turkey-related moments from the Report before the show shuts down. We are going to feature Joseph Gobbles, the best TCR turkey ever to be had, and a pretty fierce segment about that weird time last year when Hannukah and Thanksgiving intersected. Review these great moments, and shout out your thoughts in the comments!

Joseph Gobbles was some kind of brilliant brain child of an episode that really highlighted the best of Thanksgiving goodness on The Colbert Report. It was so ridiculous even Stephen couldn’t keep from breaking, and it featured a live turkey. Jay the intern (Jay Katsir) also literally took a bullet for the segment (after doing a drug deal.) You know, innocent Thanksgiving fun.

Stephen Pardons Joseph Gobbles

“This is our last show before Thanksgiving, a magical time of year, when families gather together to raise America’s obesity statistics. Personally, I love Thanksgiving traditions: watching football, making pumpkin pie, and saying the magic phrase that sends your aunt storming out of the dining room to sit in her car.”

“I will not be out-mercifuled! So bring him out boys!”

Joseph Gobbles: Meth Dealer

“Joseph Gobbles, are you dealing meth to my interns? You just sold him crystal meth. I am going to call the cops on you, mister! Wait a minute, I can’t! I pardoned that turkey for all crimes, past, present, and future. You fool, Colbert. You’ve given him a blank check!”

Joseph Gobbles Shoots Jay the Intern

“There’s an armed and murderous turkey on the loose!”

Thanksgiving Under Attack – Hannukah

Last year’s Thanksgiving also turned out to be awesome because Stephen found a way to incorporate the incredible “Easter Under Attack” graphic with Thanksgiving:

“If you need some explanation as to why Jesus is coming out of the tomb, wearing a pilgrim hat and a blunderbuss, watch some of our shows from about five years ago.”

As Thanksgiving strangely intersected with the arrival of Hannukah (which cam waaayyy early), causing mass confusion:

Stephen tried to draw a turkey/menorah, which resulted in him struggling mightily with his permanent marker. Pretty sure more got on him than the paper, and he almost accidentally drew a Hitler-esque mustache, resulting in this break:

“I can’t believe i’m discussing Hanukkah and i drew a mustache right there. (points under nose) That is bad form. Really, really not good.”
