Hubster Anaïs sent us this wonderful “Taping ReporT” of her trip to the July 28th, 2011 taping of “The Colbert Report”.

“Stephen did a segment that ended up getting cut out completely from the edited version, possibly because the interview with Buddy Roemer was long enough without it. It concerned the Iowa straw poll and Michele Bachmann talking about why celery was her favourite food and Stephen made jokes about her and Iowa and corn and celery etc. He brandished a stalk of celery during the whole segment.”

Nirvana’s surviving members will spend the night of Nevermind’s 20th anniversary with Jon Stewart. On September 24, “The Daily Show” host will sit down with Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, along with Nevermind producer Butch Vig, for a two-hour Q&A session that will be broadcast live on SiriusXM Radio. Subscribers to SiriusXM can enter a contest to attend the Q&A session, and ask questions themselves. “SiriusXM Town Hall With Nirvana” will air at 8 p.m. Eastern on SiriusXM’s channel 34, the aptly named Lithium channel.

The broadcast follows a tribute album, a reissue and box set, and a tribute show, among other Nevermind anniversary commemorations. In fact, “SiriusXM Town Hall With Nirvana” will be only one program on the satellite radio broadcaster’s all-Nirvana channel, Nevermind Radio, which will run on channel 34 from September 23 at 3 p.m. Eastern through September 28 at 12:00am Eastern. The channel will play music from throughout Nirvana’s career, plus comments about the band from various celebrities. (Stephen Colbert, anyone?)

Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow may be a running gag on “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central, but it is spending money as it sees fit, with little in the way of disclosure, just like its noncomedic brethren.

Comedians, including Mr. Colbert in the last election, have undertaken faux candidacies. But his Super PAC riff is a real-world exercise, engaging in a kind of modeling by just doing what Super PACs do.

“I am much taken by this and can’t think of any real parallel in history,” said Stephen Hess of the Brookings Institution. “Yes, comedians have always told jokes about elections, but this is quite different. This is a funny person being very serious, actually talking about process. What comedian talks about process?”

Mr. Colbert not only talks about process, he has become a part of it. The current law governing political action committees was laid down in a 2010 Supreme Court ruling, which lifted many restrictions on how corporations, unions and others could spend money on behalf of almost any cause.
