bkag-4015791 Welcome to Better Know a Guest, your weekly guide to the wonderful and diverse array of personalities appearing on ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ each week.

Hello, Colbert News Hub! Happy winter, apparently. I’ve seen a little bit of snow this week, and am writing this while drinking a gingerbread latte in a very christmas-y Starbucks.

This last week before Thanksgiving promises to be a good one, with Jon Stewart visiting the Colbert Report as a guest for the first time. We also have a smattering of positive news stories in among the awfulness of ISIS killing more hostages and norovirus coming back to cruise ships. My favorite was the Rosetta mission – neither the Daily Show nor the Colbert Report have taken the chance yet to cover the fact that the European Space Agency has managed to land a spaceship on a comet traveling at 40,000 miles per hour. That’s pretty cool, and I hope to see it worked in somehow. An easier target is the fact that today Vladimir Putin became the first to leave Australia’s G20 summit, because he was sleepy. The summit involved much condemnation of his actions in Ukraine, and strengthening of language to combat climate change. It’s unlikely that sleep was really the reason Putin left, but he said that it was and that’s hilarious.

Stephen’s guests this week are a senator, an actress and filmmaker, a novelist, and Jon Stewart! Jon’s guests are a filmmaker and three actors. Let us know in the comments which stories and guests you’re looking forward to!

bkag-4015791 Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope everyone had a beautiful and restorative holiday, and is feeling renewed and refreshed. May all your wishes for 2012 come true, and may all your resolutions be fulfilled. I’m looking forward to a new year’s worth of shows with great joy. What will it bring us? I’m sure there’s more Colbert SuperPac mischief in store, more South Carolina debate madness, and more witty Words to cherish. With luck, we’ll get to see the Formidable Opponents meet again, watch Death being Cheated, and chew delightedly over Thought for Food. And, as always, I hope we get our fair share of character breaks.

To Stephen and family—all of us at the Hub hope you had a great time back home. But Mr. Colbert, I also hope you don’t mind that we can’t wait for you to get back to work. We’ve missed you! And heaven knows, there’s been plenty of political looniness for you to comment on. (Newt sobbing, Santorum surging…has the world gone crazy? Maybe the Maya were right about 2012….)

This week we only have three days of shows, as the boys (like so many people) are taking Monday off because New Year’s fell on Sunday. So let’s welcome the first guests for 2012!

UPDATE: Information on Jon Stewart’s guests has now been added! Continue reading
