Peter Baker (Author: “Days of Fire: Bush and Cheney in the White House”)

Peter Baker is an American writer and reporter. He is currently a White House correspondent for The New York Times. Prior to the Times, he wrote for The Washington Post. Over his career, Baker has focused on the Obama Administration, the Bush Administration, the Clinton Administration, Hurricane Katrina, the Iraq War, the Supreme Court, and the economy.  He is also a regular panelist on PBS’s “Washington Week”.  His book Days of Fire: Bush and Cheney in the White House examines the eight-year presidency of George Bush and Dick Cheney, and the controversies that came with it.

David Christian (Creator: “Big History”)

David Christian is an Anglo-American historian. He is an expert in Russian history and created the “big history” perspective on history.  The approach emphasizes looking at human history from a cosmic, geological, and biological perspective.  As such, he is the president of the International Big History Association.  The concept attracted attention from philanthropist Bill Gates, whose foundation contributed to a project to eventually introduce the course to American high schools.  His approach will be showcased on Big History, a new series for History Channel 2.

Blind Boys of Alabama(Album: “I’ll Find a Way”)

The Blind Boys of Alabama is a gospel group from Alabama that formed in 1939.  Since then, their career has spanned seven decades, and they have won five Grammys.  The members are: Jimmy Carter, Ben Moore, and Eric “Ricky” McKinnie, the guitarist and musical director, Joey Williams, and a keyboard player, a bass player, and a drummer.  Another member, Clarence Fountain joins them when he can due to health concerns.  Their newest album I’ll Find a Way is produced by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and features the group’s signature form of gospel.

Alexis Ohanian  is an American internet entrepreneur, activist, and investor.  He is famously the co-founder of the website Reddit, but has also helped found the travel site Hipmunk and the new site Breadpig.  His book Without Their Permission shares his interest in the internet and how it can be used for good.

Doris Kearns Goodwin (Author: ” The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism “)

Doris Kearns Goodwin is an American biographer, historian, and political commentator.  She has written several biographies of US Presidents.  Her book No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1995.  Kearns was a White House Fellow in 1967, and taught government at Harvard University from 1969-1979.  Her newest book The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism examines the beginning of the Progressive era and the beginning of muckraking journalism.

Joe Scarborough (Author: “The Right Path: From Ike to Reagan, How Republicans Once Mastered Politics–and Can Again”)

Joe Scarborough is an American cable news host, radio host, lawyer, author, and former politician.  Scarborough is the host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, though he previously hosted Scarborough Country on the same channel.  As a politician, he formerly served in the United States House of Representatives from 1995-2001 as a Republican from Florida’s 1st District.  His book The Right Path focuses on the Republican dominance of American politics and its recent fall, and details how they can regain their lost status.

Key and Peele (Comedians: Key and Peele)

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are the writers, executive producers, and stars of Comedy Central’s Key and Peele.  Both are alums of Chicago’s Second City comedy troupe and Fox’s MADtv.  Key and Peele is a sketch comedy show filmed in front of a live studio audience.  It focuses on several topics, especially Black-American culture and race relations in the United States.

Geoffrey Rush (Actor: The Book Thief)

Geoffrey Rush is an Australian actor and film producer.  He is one of the few people who have won the “Triple Crown of Acting”: (Academy Award, Tony Award and Emmy Award). He is the foundation President of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and was named the 2012 Australian of the Year.  He is famous for his roles in Les Miserables (1998), The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and The King’s Speech.  Rush plays Hans Hubermann in The Book Thief by Brian Percival, the film adaptation of Markus Zusak’s book of the same name. The film centers around young Liesel, who finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. At home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents under the stairs.
