With excitement comes the pride of old football glory stories, except for maybe Stephen Colbert.

The “Colbert Report” host, 49, told ABC News on Friday night at the Shape Magazine/Men’s Fitness party that his high school football days didn’t last very long.

“I was a cornerback for one day,” he said at the party sponsored by Tabasco. “All of my buddies were on the team and they said, ‘You should come out.’ I said, ‘Sure, that would be a lot of fun.’”

Colbert was a bit mistaken.

“I showed up for one two-a-day, two practices in one day, in August in Charleston, South Carolina,” he said laughing. “I threw up and passed out. At the end of it, I said, ‘Coach, I want to thank you for the opportunity,’ but I’m not sure it’s my game.’ He said ‘I’m not sure it is either. And that was it.’
