Showtime has greenlit an animated satirical series centered on the Trump White House, Variety has learned. The show hails from executive producer Stephen Colbert.
The untitled series will span 10 episodes, and will air this fall. Production will ramp up quickly and wrap close to the premiere date, in order to enable the show to stay relevant with current events and Trump’s continuing antics.
The series will revolve around the two-dimensional avatars of President Donald Trump and his family members. Described as a “fresh, cutting-edge comedy,” the series will present the “tru-ish adventures of Trump’s confidants and bon vivants — family, top associates, heads of government, golf pros, and anyone else straying into his orbit — intrepidly exploring their histories and their psyches, revealing insights into what makes them so definitively Trumpian.” According to Showtime, “it’s a workplace comedy where the office happens to be oval; it’s a character study in search of character, as seen through the eyes of an imaginary documentary crew.”
“I know a lot of people wanted to do this, and I’m honored that the Cartoon President invited our documentary crew into his private world. I’ve seen some of the footage, and I look forward to sharing the man behind the MAGA,” Colbert said in jest.
“Stephen and Chris have an uncanny genius for deconstructing the world of President Trump, and this series opens a new realm for them,” said Showtime president and CEO David Nevins. “Their vision will produce a comedy that makes waves, gets attention, and plays great on our networks, including our streaming service.”
The animated show hails from CBS Television Studios and will be executive produced by Colbert and “Late Show” showrunner Chris Licht. Tim Luecke, who co-created the “Late Show” version of animated Trump, will serve as lead animator and co-executive producer.

It was revealed today at the summer TCA’s that Stephen Colbert will guest star as himself on the upcoming truTV series ‘At Home with Amy Sedaris‘. The series, executive produced by Paul Dinello, will premiere on 24th October, 2017 at 10:30/9:30c.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will present “Russia Week” with shows highlighting the host’s recent visit to the country, starting Monday, July 17, 2017 (11:35 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“I was asked to go to Russia by an acquaintance I knew from the 2013 Miss Universe pageant to meet with an individual who I was told might have information helpful to my show,” claimed Stephen Colbert in a statement. “Donald Trump Jr.’s father knew nothing of the meeting or these events. Or evidently, much else.”
With Russian/American relations dominating the current news cycle, Colbert went to Russia and colluded with his crew to document the visit. Throughout “Russia Week,” “The Late Show” will air pieces shot while Colbert was in St. Petersburg and Moscow, featuring his interactions with the Russian people, his interview and vodka shots on the Russian late night television talk show “Evening Urgant,” and lessons he learned on how to live the oligarch lifestyle from Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.
In addition to the Russia features airing throughout the week, “The Late Show” will welcome former Vice President Al Gore, actress Issa Rae, actor Keegan-Michael Key, actor Jason Bateman and English rock band Muse to the Ed Sullivan Theater as guests. Also, Colbert has extended an open invitation to any Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer with dirt on Hillary Clinton.
The news of the trip to Russia first broke on Thursday, June 22 after the highly-sensitive information that Stephen Colbert was in St. Petersburg was shamelessly leaked in a tweet by Stephen Colbert. That evening he taped an interview on the Russian late night talk show “Evening Urgant” with host Ivan Urgant, which aired the following night on Friday, June 23 on Russian state television. During his first show back from Russia on Monday, June 26, Colbert discussed his travel abroad and his interview with Ivan Urgant.

Producers at CBS’ “Late Show” will this week experiment with the program’s Friday broadcast by running a new opening and monologue, then using the rest of the hour to call attention to highlights and segments from earlier in the week. A spokeswoman for the program called the maneuver an “experiment” and suggested the show could well go back to running an entirely new broadcast on Friday if circumstances warranted, or if the news of the day was compelling enough to require additional material.
“Late Show” typically tapes two episodes on Thursday afternoons, giving Colbert and his staff a little breathing room on Fridays. The spokeswoman, Lauren Kamm, said the same audience was likely to watch both tapings.

While on assignment in Russia for an upcoming segment on the ‘Late Show’, Stephen Colbert appeared on the Russia talk show “Evening Urgant” hosted by Ivan Urgant.
During a game of Russian roulette, played with pickles and vodka shots on a lazy susan, Colbert, taking a shot, offered a toast “to the beautiful and friendly Russian people. I don’t understand why no members of the Trump administration can remember meeting you.” Returning the toast, Urgant replied “I would like to raise a glass for the beautiful country, United States of America, which invented the Internet, thanks to which we can influence the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections.”
After a few shots, Colbert paused and asked Urgant, “Can I announce something? I’m here in Russia – this is not shown in the United States?” Urgant assured him that the interview will not be airing at President Trump’s place. Colbert continued, “Okay. I am here to announce that I am considering a run for president in 2020, and I thought it would be better to cut out the middle man and just tell the Russians myself. If anyone would like to work on my campaign, in an unofficial capacity, please just let me know.”
Ever the gracious host, Urgant toasted his guest, “It’s a pleasure to drink with the future U.S. President. To you, Stephen. I wish you luck. We will do everything we can so you become president.”
