Comedy Central Launches TV Everywhere App

The Comedy Central App will feature a robust lineup of content free to all users, including the most recent season of “South Park” and next-day availability of Comedy Central’s late-night lineup of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “The Colbert Report” and its new late-night hit “@midnight.” In addition, all app users will be able to preview two yet-to-premiere new series, the animated “Trip Tank” and uncensored stand-up series “Comedy Underground with Dave Attell.” Users will also have access to original short-form content.

“The Comedy Central app is a seamless extension of the brand that gives fans access to their favorite Comedy Central content instantly and anywhere,” said Michele Ganeless, President, Comedy Central. “It is homescreen-worthy and an incredible platform for viewing and sharing our programming.”

Fans who sign in via their cable or satellite provider will be able to dive into a treasure trove of additional content featuring close to 200 episodes of hit series, stand-up specials and shorts including advance episodes of the new season of “Inside Amy Schumer,” premiering exclusively in the app one week prior to their premiere on Comedy Central, as well as full seasons of “Tosh.0,” “Broad City,” “Workaholics,” “Kroll Show,” “Futurama,” “Review,” “Trip Tank,” “Chappelle’s Show,” Comedy Central stand-up series and specials and more.

New Comedy Central App Is a Bonanza of Full Episodes for Free

Though much of its front-facing content is free, pay-TV subscribers can log in to get the full range of Comedy Central’s on-air programming, plus a few bonuses – most notably the entire season of Chapelle’s Show.

The content is ad-supported, with AXE Peace and Corona Extra signed up as initial sponsors, though you’ll appreciate that your show stars playing immediately — there’s no preroll, and sponsor ads go where the commercials otherwise would. Much of Comedy Central’s content will still be available on other platforms, such as Hulu and Amazon.

The app itself is elegant, minimalist and easy to navigate (see screenshot above). Though there are share buttons and a few second-screen features, it’s sharply focused on delivering full episodes to you mobile device, with intuitive customized settings to ensure your favorites are front-and-center. Still, extra goodies like original shorts and standup clips are easy to find.

Comedy Central Launches Mobile App with 200 Episodes, But the Full Load Isn’t Available to Everyone

But while some of the app’s content is free for anyone to watch, most of the lineup — including the entire run of “Chappelle’s Show” from Dave Chappelle — is behind a paywall, available only to subscribers of participating pay-TV partners. Dish Network subs, for example, don’t have access to the full bouquet of shows.

Another thing: The app requires iOS 7, the latest operating system update from Apple. Also, the app currently does not support AirPlay, which lets users stream media to an Apple TV set-tep.
