Craig Ferguson

Hello hubsters! It’s been a little while, but I’m (finally) here with the February edition. What’s particularly interesting to me in putting these monthly press recaps together is noticing the ways in which the show is rapidly changing. One thing they’ve done a lot more of in the past few weeks is opening the show with a short film, or a musical number, or an oddly endearing sketch with Steve Martin instead of the monologue, which gives a great energy to those episodes. And they just seem to be including more pre-taped pieces and sketches in general. Despite these changes, a lot of the arguments made in the articles you’ll find here, whether positive or negative, still hold. I’ve already mentioned my frustration with the lack of point of view in the political segments and interviews, and you’ll find similar claims in some of these articles. One of the most interesting arguments also talks about how Stephen should perhaps embrace rather than distance himself from aspects of his character that were really, perhaps, aspects of his own personality. You’ll also find, among other things, February ratings stats, a video about the lighting of the Ed Sullivan Theater, and a behind-the-scenes look at Stephen’s short appearance at the Grammys.

james-corden-9776486 In choosing James Corden on Monday to replace Craig Ferguson as the host of “The Late, Late Show,” CBS seems to be making a statement.

The statement: Nothing mattered more than finding a standout talent for the 12:35 a.m. show; not the fact that Mr. Corden is a virtual unknown in the United States, nor that CBS has again passed over every female comic in the business to add another man to the long roster of late-night stars. (The current tally: 12 men, zero women.)

CBS made the long-anticipated appointment official after concluding extended talks to secure Mr. Corden, an award-winning actor and comedian whose work is most widely known in his native Britain. (Mr. Corden’s prospective selection was mentioned a month ago on the Hollywood trade website, The Wrap.)

Catch up edition! Or perhaps, all caught up edition? Wait, I got it. It’s the “All caught up until the ‘Emmys’ edition”-Edition. How’s that sound? Seriously, we will have one more edition, pre-Emmys, that focuses mostly on all the Emmy talk.

In this edition, Jon and Stephen are accused of having too many white male guests. Comments please, as in read the comments below the article and then come back here to comment as well. I think after reading it you will want to comment.

Also, more on John Oliver and the rest of the goings-on in the ever dynamic world of late night TV.

Last night, Craig Ferguson announced that he will be stepping down as host of ‘The Late Late Show’ in December. Since 2005, Ferguson has hosted ‘The Late Late Show’ and has provided the world of late night with some of the most unique, off-the-cuff and often heart-felt monologue’s, done away with the blue interview cards each night, challenged guests to try for a ‘Golden Mouth Organ Award’, delighted fans as ‘Prince Charles’ and ‘Sir Michael Caine’, and has most recently been joined by Secretariat the dancing pantomime horse, and his robot skeleton sidekick Geoff Peterson.

Ferguson began laying the groundwork for his departure earlier this year, but was unaware that David Letterman was preparing to announce his own plans to retire in 2015. “It wasn’t contentious. I was just like, ‘I feel like I’m done,’” Ferguson told Variety. “We were all fine and were tying up loose ends. And then Dave surprised everybody with the announcement (April 3) and that threw a spanner in the works. And I had to sit and keep my mouth shut while speculation raged wildly.” (A successor to ‘The Late Late Show’ has yet to be named).

While many saw Ferguson as the heir to ‘The Late Show’, he has continued to reiterate that he has no desire to take over for Letterman, stating that the 11:35PM time slot was never his ambition. “I had no desire — none — to do that job,” Ferguson told Variety. “I could barely keep it together at 12:30, never mind 11:30. […] It really wasn’t what I aspired to. Doing this job wasn’t something I aspired to, either. I kind of fell into this.” Despite the recent vacancy that has opened up at the 11:30PM time slot on Comedy Central, Ferguson doesn’t see another late night hosting gig on the horizon, telling Variety that, “I don’t know if I would ever do a late night talk show (again). It just doesn’t feel like that’s the way I’m headed.”

What do you think Hubsters? Who would you like to see take over the reigns at ‘The Late Late Show’ (12:35PM / CBS)?

I’m going to say this will be the last “Late Show” edition, however, I’m predicting that we will have a section devoted to Late Show press in this post from now until after he has settled in at CBS.

In this edition, celebrities are still weighing in on how Stephen will do, the business of the new late night landscape and so much more!

The press is just all over Stephen. This last month has been a whirlwind of media coverage. There are too many articles in fact. Here is the first round and next week we will have part 2.

Since the speculation started and the announcement was made last week that Stephen Colbert will indeed take over for David Letterman, naturally people are talking about it. We’re losing two shows and then gaining two shows, or maybe three, depending if Craig Ferguson stays on.

So read on!
