Diane Keaton

graphic-a-look-back-35565092012 was definitely a year to remember for all of us in Colbert Nation. It seems as though the show started to steer its own course this year. The tosses have ended and the show seems to be breaking away from its’ connection to Jon and The Daily Show. This year’s election show, much like in 2010, was not a joint venture between The Daily Show and TCR. In addition, there were many more “out of character” moments where it just felt as if Stephen couldn’t help but bust out of his persona and be himself. Moments like Hobbit week and dozens of musical acts and performances. As we look back to 2012, what do you all think of the direction the show took this year and where it may head next year?

Even though the show did appear to be cutting the ties to the Daily Show, we had some great moments between Stephen and Jon. It was almost just enough to satisfy those of us who still love to see these two great men working together.

Here is a recap of the best and most memorable moments in 2012.

“Would you make me the luckiest host in the world and be my audience for the rest of my life?”

In case you were left wondering why Stephen seemed so excited and moved at the top of the show, we know why; Roger, who was at the taping, explains in the comments below that someone proposed in the audience (thankfully, not to Stephen.) Who needs eHarmony? Take your date to a TCR taping, and if she laughs at all the jokes, you know she is an it-getter. Mate found! No need to fill out complicated surveys.

Congrats to the lucky couple! Now every time you see The Colbert Report, you will have fond memories. Stephen as aphrodisiac? Who knew. Oh, wait, yes we did know that, I suppose.

Diane Keaton was amazing; what a delightful, hilarious, quasi-trainwreck interview. She just wasn’t going to behave, no matter how much Stephen quietly insisted she say something substantive. It would have been nice to hear her say anything pertaining to the book, but I think it was a rare interview where the guest didn’t play by the TCR rules but everything still felt light and fun and totally fine. But apparently a lot of you think she was on something – I don’t think so, that’s just her shtick. See: Annie Hall as Exhibit A.

Hello, Hubsters!

bkag-5576693Well, I am back after being ill, although still slightly on the mend. Last week had some wonderful moments, didn’t it—especially Jack White. Any set of shows that gives me White and a Word can only be considered successful, in my humble opinion.

Our next four shows are bookended by two actresses, one with over 40 years experience and the other only in her twenties, yet running an entire HBO show. In between, we meet two less-famous yet no less influential persons attempting to fix what they see as problems in our political and social system. They have very different perspectives, but should both be fascinating.

And, oh: I will not address that unjust loss. We all know who should have won.

Can you say PEABODY? Can you say TIME 100? Some people get it, some people don’t. But we know the score, right Nation? Right!

And good luck to our very own Remy, who is probably even now trying to figure out Stephen’s clue and win a college visit from Mr. Colbert.

Now, to the guests… Continue reading

bkag-5576693 Hello, Hubsters!

Happy new week of shows. I hope all is well with everyone. I’ve been enjoying some busy family time with my sister and niece visiting in New York. That has meant two shows (including Hugh Jackman’s Back on Broadway), a visit to B.B. King’s music club, and a night at the ballet. Whew!

Even as I write about, and care about, the guests, I must admit it’s really Stephen’s own antics that excite me more. What will he do with the SuperPac? Will there be a WORD? Will a Republican presidential candidate do something mockable at a debate? (Okay–that last question is just too easy.) What won’t happen in the next four shows is another song. For the first time in a few weeks, The Report has no musical visitors scheduled. Well, no matter. We went out on a high note last Thursday, didn’t we?

On to the guests! Continue reading
