Welcome to Fan Art, where we highlight the glorious manifestations of Stephen, as rendered by fans and talented artists.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a “Fan Art” feature here on the Hub. I don’t know if the Colb-fan-artists have been waiting for their hook with the new show, but it’s nice to be back with a new submission courtesy of Lego Artist Maxwell Bauman.
Longtime fans might remember this is not the first time Stephen has been lego-ized; his initial brush with lego-greatness was the wonderful life-size sculpture by artist Nathan Samaya. (Check out his 2007 appearance on the Report here.)
However, to my knowledge, we’ve never seen Stephen depicted on his show’s set in legos. What do you think of the piece, Hubsters? Let us know in the comments. Be sure to check out Bauman’s work on Flickr, or his website.

Welcome to Fan Art, where we highlight the glorious manifestations of Stephen, as rendered by fans and talented artists.
If you are need of some nice beardless Fan Art during these bland wintry months, check out this colorful illustration by graphic artist Enrico Varrasso:
Enrico explains, “I created it using Adobe Illustrator after I manipulated a few images…I wanted to create the image because I’ve always been a huge fan… I consider him and his Colbert character an act of pure genius.”
Agreed! You can check out Enrico’s work on his website, and he has a great tumblr account as well. Let us know your thoughts about the work in the comments.

The Shadow Studio creates startlingly accurate silhouettes of its subjects, which run the range from Harry Potter, to Disney princesses, and our heroes Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, of course. The artist, whose username is inknpaint, elaborates on how these amazing portraits are concocted: “I’m a silhouettist and cut-paper artist. All pieces are cut by hand using surgical scissors and sometimes a scalpel.”
To celebrate Independence Day, we have the darling entry below: “I thought I’d cut silhouettes of two of my favorite modern patriots for the occasion: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.”

Welcome to Fan Art, where we highlight the glorious manifestations of Stephen, as rendered by fans and talented artists.
“A while ago I built a Stephen Colbert puppet for season two of my web series Dotboom. The idea was that I would attempt to get the real Stephen Colbert to provide his voice as a guest-star.”
So explains Ontario, Canada based puppeteer Brian Hogg. On his behance website, Mr. Hogg details his concerted effort to both build this adorable puppet and create a groundswell of support to get our fearless host to lend his voice for his “Stephen Colbert Puppet Challenge.” Although Hogg was unsuccessful, the result is charming, don’t you think?

Welcome to Fan Art, where we highlight the glorious manifestations of Stephen, as rendered by fans and talented artists.
Get ready for classical-style oil paintings heavy with symbolism — but with a modern, digital twist. California-based illustrator Astor Alexander is fond of depicting popular media figures, including comic/satirical heroes like Gervais, Stewart, and Colbert, in Renaissance-looking digital paintings with a lot more than meets the eye. Here is a taste:

A lot more than meets the eye, really – his second Colbert-related work, “American Warrior,” has Stephen in a somewhat racy setting with Lady Liberty, so much so I had to put it after the jump. It’s worth a look see, though. Alexander also kindly answered a few questions about his work for us. Read on to take a look.

Note: There is a little gift at the bottom of this post! So be sure to read on.
Cleveland based graphic designer Jameson Campbell created a marvelous book, styled in the format of I Am America (And So Can You!) yet with the reverence of a true fan’s appreciation of our fearless host. The typesetting and layout pays homage to the style of Stephen’s book, yet references many popular segment/topics/wondrous Stephen creations on the Report, such Smokin’ Pole, Cheating Death, Tek Jansen, and even Stephanie Colburtle the Turtle.

Jameson was kind enough to answer some of my questions about this work. Naturally, I was curious as to how he decided upon Stephen and the Report as the subject for such a creation. He answered as follows:
“The book that I created was for a student project while I was in college at Kent State University. The project was to celebrate a person off of the Time magazine Time 100 List. Many of my classmates were picking classic entries from some of the original Time 100 List that came out in 1999 like Albert Einstein and Gandhi but I wanted to do something different. Stephen was nominated for and won a spot as a Time 100 finalist in 2008 along with Steve Jobs, Barack Obama and many soon to be historically important figures. Since I wanted to focus on the present, I chose Stephen because of the overwhelmingly effective nature of his satire and the quick success of his show after leaving the Daily Show in 2005.”

Recently artist Sandy Clifton posted this video on YouTube of her creation of Stephen’s portrait. I am always fascinated by oil paintings so I think the video is quite interesting to watch:

What do you think? Does Ms. Clifton capture the essence of Stephen? I like the eyes, but they seem to be more hazel than the original, actual man. Let us know your thoughts.

Check out a chalk portrait of this handsome lad on the University of Virginia’s “Free Speech Monument” in Charlottesville, VA:
The UVA students are clearly excited about Stephen appearing as this year’s valediction speaker – and who better exemplifies the value of free speech better than our fearless pundit? A couple technical questions: how much much chalk was used, and how long does it take to create something like this? It looks uncannily like Stephen – so good job, Fan Artist.
