In The Press – Emmy Awards Edition. | Colbert News Hub

Well, hubsters, it’s that time of year again. If your TV runs off to hide tonight, it may be due to the number of times you have thrown things at it, after the announcement of our hero’s categories, so I would bolt it down now. Hey, at least Neil Patrick Harris is hosting again. We should be able to enjoy some of the show. On a serious note, Good Luck to all the nominees!

Here are some of the articles that have been buzzing about this year’s Emmys. Perhaps a subtitle for this post could be “Will The Colbert Report finally beat The Daily Show?” edition.

Political Satire Recedes in Late-Night Emmy Race

Brian Taylor

“If inspired silliness and Internet ubiquity are the controlling factors in this year’s Emmy race, then Jimmy Kimmel just might be able to break “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” stranglehold on the gold statue for variety series”

Great! We finally see The Daily Show lose and another show takes over. That could be a real possibility. I worry that maybe Stephen’s time has passed and he will lose to an up and coming show like Jimmy Fallon or the other Jimmy.

Can ‘Colbert’ finally beat ‘Daily Show’ for Emmy’s best variety show?

Yes. The answer is yes.

“I’m a fan of both (Colbert and Stewart) and I’ve never really been bothered that Stewart has won every year, which is not to say I haven’t been surprised that he’s won every year,” said Jon Weisman, Variety senior editor and the Hollywood trade’s former awards editor. “For all we know, he’s winning by one vote.”

He thinks what keeps Colbert from winning might be the difference between Stewart appearing on “The Daily Show” as himself and Colbert playing a character who was spun off from Stewart’s program in 2005.”

This year, Bodow received two Emmy nominations, one for Outstanding Variety Series, the other for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, which are his 14th and 15th nominations since joining “The Daily Show” in 2002.

Long before he started working for “The Daily Show,” Bodow served as the director of Elevator Repair Service, an experimental theater company. He also worked as a journalist, writing for a number of national publications, including The New York Times, New York Magazine and Salon.com.

Emmy Breakdown: Can ‘The Colbert Report’ Finally Beat ‘The Daily Show With Jon Stewart’?

HuffPo weighs in with this extensive breakdown of all the shows nominated in the Variety category.

“The Colbert Report” has been nominated for Outstanding Variety Series every year of its existence. (And it has already won two Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and has two Peabody Awards.) And, somehow, Stephen Colbert manages to up his game every year while the case can be made that Stewart’s show has remained excellent, but has certainly hit its stride some time ago. Both shows will gain from the fact that the voting period took place during a presidential election, but it just feels like this was the year that “The Colbert Report” made more of an impact.”

Yeah. Heard that one before so I am not holding my breath. It is a good read for all of us fans of late night TV, though.

Emmys: The TV Academy Breaks Down Voting in One Charmingly Elaborate Graphic

For visual people like me, this graphic from The Hollywood Reporter is nice. It’s probably way easier to understand than the ballots.

”In this world where there are almost too many award shows to keep track of, it’s easy to confuse the different rules, voting pools and deadlines that lead to a nomination or a win. The TV Academy is aware of this problem. And, for those not in the know, they’d like to clear up any confusion ahead of the big night.”

Emmys: Facebook Data Favors ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Big Bang Theory’ (Exclusive)

Another article from The Hollywood Reporter that ranks the shows in various categories by facebook postings. Scroll down to the end to get the scoop on Variety categories.

“From Sept. 1-18, Facebook assessed the total number of mentions of each major-category nominee in both of those cities and then provided THR with a breakdown of those mentions by city, gender and age demographic. No other information about the Facebook users was provided. The assumption here is that most mentions are supportive, although it’s certainly true that people sometimes post negative things on social media, as well.”

Really? I didn’t know that. Anyway, the results were semi-favorable to TCR. Click on headline to get all the results.

Emmys: Can Anyone Beat Jon Stewart?

This is what I want to hear:

This might finally be the year Colbert upends his friend and former employer Jon Stewart.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!
