When news stories fall through the cracks, we here at Colbert News Hub catch it for a post we call “In the Press”.
I’m going to say this will be the last “Late Show” edition, however, I’m predicting that we will have a section devoted to Late Show press in this post from now until after he has settled in at CBS.
In this edition, celebrities are still weighing in on how Stephen will do, the business of the new late night landscape and so much more!
Celebrities Weigh In
The Silly Conservative War on Stephen Colbert
Well, if you want to call Rush Limbaugh a celebrity, I guess technically he is.
This was written by Kevin Bleyer, a name that should sound familiar to you. Alright, I admit it. I didn’t know his name, so if you knew that he used to be on The Daily Show, you win!
Jay Leno Talks Atlantic City, The Tonight Show, Stephen Colbert & More
Since Jimmy Fallon’s ratings have been enormous, the be-chinned one is now considered forever retired from ‘The Tonight Show’. He waxes about the new frontier of late night TV and his future.
VIDEO: Joan Rivers, Tracy Morgan Weigh In on Colbert/Letterman News
A short video, only about a minute. Joan says that “we don’t know who he is, but he’s very smart”. (This was before she made her most recent controversial comments)
Howard Stern Doesn’t Think Stephen Colbert Made the “Right Choice” Taking Over the Late Show
I’m a sometime fan of Stern. Despite the title of this piece, he has very nice things to say about Stephen. Hearing him say these nice things about Stephen is awesome, because if Howard Stern praises you, you know it’s genuine. I also wasn’t surprised that he said what he said about Stephen’s decision. It’s what I was thinking and it’s what a lot of people have said, but if Howard says it, it’s apparently a bigger deal. What I hope is that Howard and all of us who have these doubts, are severely underestimating Stephen’s wisdom.
The Business of Late Night TV
The Battle for Late Night Viewers on Screens of All Sizes
I will prepare you for this, in hopes that you will not end up banging your heads on the wall when reading it. We at the Hub, are looking out for you.
This author apparently has no idea that Viacom is aggressive like Donald Trump trying to protect his image, when it comes to taking down unauthorized Youtube clips of ‘The Daily Show’ and especially ‘The Colbert Report’.
He is right that the videos on the CC website aren’t as accessible, but not having his stuff on Youtube? That’s not Stephen’s choice. For some reason he put this gif in the article. Who cares why, it’s cute.
David Letterman’s Departure Underscores the New Laws of Late-Night TV
More about the changing world of late night TV and the online presence you need to succeed.

Go out, get a bite, grab a smoke, but watch out for the lights flickering, then it’s over!
Truthiness And The Late Show Leadership Dilemma
When I saw the title of this and also that it was from Forbes, I was kinda thinking, “yawn”, but it’s actually a very interesting and thought provoking piece.
The author, Allison Todd, correlates the transitions of leadership between Apple and Microsoft to the transitions of late night hosts at NBC and CBS. She makes some very intelligent points, especially about how the current leader giving his stamp of approval to the next new guy can make a big difference.
With Colbert Coming To CBS, The Competition For Late Night Moves To The Second Screen
This is from Forbes and it talks more about the shift from TV to online viewing habits in late night. There are a lot of numbers in this article so if numbers are your thing, go to it.
Colbert Brings ‘Sponsortunities’ to CBS for Brands That Can Handle It

The new crop of late night hosts are more willing to work product placement into their shows and we know that Stephen has been able to do it brilliantly, without it feeling like a stupid sell-out type of ad.
Feeling the Loss
The Shifts in Late-Night World have Major Impact, Since the Hosts are Like Family to Us
Yes, that is the title of this piece, it’s not the first sentence. Written by Don Kaplan for The Daily News, he seems pretty emotional when it comes to his Late Night TV viewing, but I suspect we all are like this at one time or another.
What I’ll Miss Most About Going on The Colbert Report
Emily Bazelon, frequent Supreme Court contributor, talks about her times on the show. She says she tells people who are going on the show to “just tell him he’s wrong”.
The Late Stephen Colbert
Yeah, I thought there were a couple words missing from this title. It makes it seem like Stephen is dead. Oh! Right. The character is. Now I get it.
This was written by Hendrik Hertzberg for The New Yorker. He is in mourning for the time being, but hoping a new Stephen can rise from the ashes. Don’t we all!
Colbert’s Move to “The Late Show” is About to Claim its Biggest Victim
Although this is on Salon.com, it was originally written by Dustin Rowles, from Pajiba. He wants to know why CBS is treating Craig Ferguson with little respect. Are they? What do you think?
Let us know what you think of this and all the enormous amounts of press Stephen has been getting, in the comments below. Thanks!
