Jon Stewart

When news stories fall through the cracks, we here at Colbert News Hub catch it for a post we call “In the Press”.

Wake up! Hasn’t that tryptophan worn off yet? Turn off the football games and find out what’s going on in the world of our boys, Jon and Stephen. Wait, our nation doesn’t watch football do we? Do we?

This edition is somewhat Stephen-less. I guess you could call it Jon-heavy. Stephen is accused of sexism, Jon is accused of being a real pundit and Late Night TV is saturated.

Jon Stewart and his beard check in on ‘The Daily Show’ via Skype, from ‘from somewhere far, far away’ to let John Oliver know he’s doing a phenomenal job as temporary host while he is off directing the geopolitical thriller ‘Rosewater’.

And brace yourself fashionistas, he is wearing a BLACK t-shirt! Perhaps this is how all of his grey t-shirts start?

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have been named amongst the ‘Most Powerful People in the Media’ by ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, featured in the April 26th issue.

More recently, Colbert, 48, married with three kids and living in Montclair, N.J., announced a legit political endeavor: He would help his sister Elizabeth Colbert Busch, who’s running for a House seat in their home state, South Carolina, by hosting fundraisers in Washington, D.C., and New York. Such off-hour antics have been a boon for The Colbert Report, which for the first time since its October 2005 debut is beating Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show in the key 18-to-49 demo while scoring an average nightly audience of nearly 2 million viewers.

With a cache of critical kudos (28 Emmy noms and two wins) and the least predictable guest lineup (Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, pig-farmer geneticist Carl Blake, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor), Colbert is the meta-quirk king of New York’s late-night universe.

While The Daily Show is on the road for a few weeks to cover the 2012 National Conventions, Jon Stewart used the opportunity to attend a Charlotte fundraiser for groups working to support U.S. military veterans.

NewsChannel 36 covered the story on a smartphone:

The Charlotte Business Journal was there as well, and while Jon was hesitant to skewer Charlotte, he did take another shot at Tampa:

“I’ve only been here a couple hours — seems real nice,” Stewart said soon after arriving at the party. “We just came up from Tampa, so just the idea that we can be outside for this amount of time without melting has been a very positive experience.”

Stewart is a major celebrity supporter of efforts to aid veterans and has taken several trips to visit American troops overseas.

The Charlotte Observer blogged a few more of his jokes:

He spent much of the party posing for photos, chatting with guests and drawing laughs with one-liners. When a little girl clad in a bathing suit and swim flippers approached him, he quipped: “Oh my God! It’s a web-footed person!”

Has he gathered any good material on Charlotte for his show yet? He’s working on it, he told me. “We’re trying to figure out why, no matter what you’re eating, they put it on a biscuit.”

All joking aside, Jon seems very relaxed here and it’s nice to see him in a casual atmosphere, chatting with the locals and supporting a great cause. Check out all the links below for the full story and more video and pictures!
