The episode is delayed due to the (totally cray-zay) RNC Night 3 going long, so our fearless host is kept waiting beyond his live time slot. (Is that considered “post-live?” It’s certainly late, whatever it is, not that I’m complaining.) After a slightly awkward “Taking the Gloves Off” segment with Mark Cuban in the cold open, the monologue is really strong, complete with unbelievably topical coverage of Ted Cruz’s odd non-endorsement of Trump, as well as a relatively thorough analysis of Pence’s evangelical credentials. In short, Stephen breaks it down to the viewers and explains how Pence is a card carrying member of the white evangelical Christian wing of the GOP. One starts to understand why Trump picked him, and it’s not just because as Stephen said, the ticket should read “Trump/Boring 2016.”

Stephen is slightly miffed when a tackling dummy which looks like Pence starts to “upstage” him, so Tackling Dummy Pence is whisked away.

I think for me the best parts of this episode are the parts not televised but the ones caught on twitter, as I am a huge Wyclef Jean/Fugees fan. Call it the nineties girl in me, but Jean’s music means a lot to me. I can tell Jon Batiste is a big fan too, because he frequently plays “Ready or Not” in his repertoire.

Wyclef freestyles with JB and Stay Human in the commercial breaks, which you can catch on twitter, including this brief little rap exchange between Stephen and Wyclef. Who knew Stephen could freestyle? I am sure even Stephen didn’t know. And in German. Ausgezeichnet!

Ok, Hubsters. I will have lots more on this ep in a little while, but do let us know (once you’ve checked out the ep, being delayed and all) what you thought in the comments!
