Esquire Magazine has compiled a photo gallery featuring 80 of the most accomplished men on the planet in honour of their 80th Anniversary. ‘The Life of Man’ features men ranging from the ages of 80 – 1, who were asked what the best advice was that they ever received? Their best day, proudest accomplishment, or what they’re looking forward to? So what does Stephen have to say?

Stephen Colbert (Actor, Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report; arched eyebrow of a grateful nation) Best day so far: “I know I should say getting married or the birth of my child, but last Friday was pretty good. And there was nothing special about it. It just felt really good.” Proudest accomplishment: “Doing what I do for a living and doing it in the city I want.”

In the video of the photo shoot Stephen elaborates on why ‘last Friday’ was pretty good.

When I was a high-school student in Dallas, my math teacher Mrs. Bauer went to a conference and saw a demonstration of one of the first personal computers. She thought, These are going to be big. She enrolled in a night class in computer science so she could teach us how to use computers, even though she had to pay the tuition herself. Her dedication to bringing innovation into our classroom changed my life and launched a career I could never have imagined. How many of us had a teacher like Mrs. Bauer? Wouldn’t it be great if we had a way to support the amazing educators who work so hard to expose their students to the world around them? Well, we do, through DonorsChoose.org, which makes it easy to help teachers bring their ideas to life. DonorsChoose.org provides a simple way for people who want to lend a hand to help teachers meet their classroom needs. Teaching is a very demanding job, and it’s even tougher if teachers don’t have a way to get the resources their students need. From kindergarten to high school, many public-school teachers routinely use their own money to buy materials for their classrooms, including basic items like pencils and books. If schools can’t provide more expensive supplies, such as those for a chemistry lab, students have to go without and their learning suffers. Through DonorsChoose.org, anyone can be connected to a specific teacher in a specific school with a specific idea about a project for students. You can support teachers in your child’s school, in your community, or anywhere in the country. You can choose projects in particular subjects you find interesting, from math and science to the humanities. Continue reading “DonorsChoose Board Members Featured in ‘Vanity Fair’.” »

Stephen Colbert and Evelyn McGee-Colbert attended the opening night gala of the 2nd Annual Montclair Film Festival, on Monday April 29th. TV Guide’sBruce Fretts interviewed Stephen on the red carpet, asking about his thoughts on the Fallon-Leno shuffle, Conan O’Brien hosting the White House Correspondents Dinner, and how he convinced Bill Clinton to join Twitter. On his personal website FrettsonFilm he asked Stephen how the festival compares to last years and what it was like interviewing Jon Stewart for the first time. On March 2, Colbert returns to Chicago to accept yet another accolade: He’ll receive Lookingglass Theatre’s Civic Engagement Award at the organization’s annual Gglassquerade gala. For Colbert, it’s more than a visit to his old stomping grounds — it’s a reunion. “I got to know most of the original members when we were at Northwestern University together,” says Colbert, who was once in a college improv group called No Mud Fun Piranhas with co-founders David Schwimmer and Joy Gregory. He even contributed to some of the theater’s first few shows, toiling in the sound pit for “The Odyssey” and lending his comic chops to the initial improv of “The Jungle.” But before long, New York came calling. “Shortly before I left Chicago, they asked me if I would do something in ‘The Master and Margarita,’ and I just couldn’t at the time,” says Colbert. “I actually had a nervous breakdown when I said no to them because I thought they were amazing. Boy, I practically had to be hospitalized, I was so upset.” Full Article: Splash.Suntimes.com (Thank you to Victoria for the Tip!)

Every weekday night, Stephen Colbert dons a Brooks Brothers suit and tie for his Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report.” The brand, which makes much of its clothing in the U.S., is a good fit for Colbert’s satirical character, a self-important, right-wing political pundit. The specialty retailer has dressed the comedian for the show since 2006, and even created a camouflage version of its Fitzgerald suit for Colbert’s 2009 USO tour in Iraq. On Friday, Brooks Bros. hosted a book launch party at its Madison Avenue flagship for Colbert’s new tome, “America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t” (Grand Central Publishing; $28.99). In the liberally illustrated book, Colbert and his team of writers riff on all of this year’s hot-button election issues, from Obamacare and Citizens United to hydraulic fracking and corn subsidies. Among those at the Brooks Bros. fete were Arianna Huffington, Monika Chiang, Dan Abrams, David Zinczenko and Lisa Birnbach, who noshed on all-American snacks like mini chicken pot pies, macaroni-and-cheese bites, apple pie and chocolate-chip cookies. Colbert toasted the attendees at one point from atop a prop vintage suitcase. During a frenzied book-promotion schedule that included appearances on the “Late Show With David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” NPR’s “Fresh Air” and “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” Colbert chatted with WWD about Mitt Romney’s hair, Rachel Maddow’s bust and his take on Dior versus Saint Laurent.
