Our favourite Middle Earth fan boy participated in ‘The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Live Event’, sending in a video asking Peter Jackson a complex question about portraying the differentiation of Elves in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’. And Peter has a question for Stephen …

#2: Colbert is so well known for his political humor that his chops as a pure comedian are often overlooked. But he’s one of comedy’s quickest wits, not to mention an old fashioned physical comedian – a world-class mugger and slapstick artist, donning ridiculous outfits and wolfing down dubious foodstuffs on Colbert Report sketches. As for politics: He sets himself apart not just as a satirist, but as an activist, breaking the fourth wall with ingenious conceptual art stunts – testifying before congress about his brief tenure as a migrant worker, founding his own Super PAC to expose post-Citizens United money-swamped political campaigns, and in his most celebrated coup de theatre, spit-roasting President Bush, and the complacent press corps, in his appearance at the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2006.

POPULARITY:The Colbert Report drew in more young viewers for Republican convention coverage than actual cable news networks. 2007 book I Am America (and So Can You!) spent 29 weeks on New York Times best seller list, thirteen weeks at number one; 2012 children’s book parody I Am a Pole (and So Can You!) also debuted at No. 1; latest book, America Again! Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t just entered list at number three in first week of release. Drew reported 215,000 to Washington D.C. Mall for his and Jon Stewart’s 2010 Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.   FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS: 2.7 million   TWITTER FOLLOWERS: Nearly 4 million for Colbert himself   FAN NICKNAME: Colbert Nation.   MAIN HANGOUTS: Comedy Central’s Colbert Nation site, where the Colbert clips can be shared on social networks.

AVERAGE DEMOGRAPHIC: Tends to skew male and educated; the median age of a Colbert viewer is 39, which is two years younger than Jon Stewart’s fan base and ten younger than Jimmy Fallon’s.

Comedy Central’s Tumblr is asking us to share our favorite Colbert Superfandom stories on TCR’s Facebook page, which might be featured on Vulture (New York Magazine) at a later time.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for . . . a repeal of Citizens United?

An Election 2012 edition of Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream is hitting supermarket shelves this week as part of Ben & Jerry’s “Get The Dough out of Politics” campaign. Vermont’s Finest — a self-proclaimed “activist company” — is fed up with the 2010 Supreme Court decision that allows corporations to freely contribute money to elections. Working with Colbert Report star Stephen Colbert, who was first honored with the company’s Americone Dream flavor in 2007 (and who has his own Super PAC), the ice cream makers hope to inspire dessert lovers to speak out against special interests’ undue influence over the American political process.

The TIME article also includes a look at an early sketch of the special-edition carton for the ice cream, with edits by Stephen.

In his book ‘Truth Be Told’, ex CNN host Larry King remembers going on The Colbert Report, and since he feels Colbert basically does a parody of Bill O’Reilly, Larry purposely did a parody of himself and shticked it up to high heaven.

“We had fun,” he recalls. Especially afterwards!

After the taping, Colbert told King:

“I was going to say it on the air, but I’ll tell it off the air:

“My first sexual experience was in a car and you were on the radio.

“I was in college–in the back seat.”

“Was it romantic?” Larry asked.

Replied Colbert: “You had a good guest.”

Well, it beats popping your cherry to Rush Limbaugh.

ColbertNation fan Dystopia is NOW! received this Chinese property advertisement featuring a caricature of none other than our own Stephen Colbert, from fellow ColbertNation member Michael who currently resides in China. He says, “all the Colbert fans on the chinese blog-sphere are demanding Stephen ranting this out!!!!!! Will you pass this on to the crew.”

Chinese Hubster and regular Lurker Lezi (and FNJer Zeo New) were kind enough to translate the advertisement’s slogan: “Living in a big house won’t only be the right of the 1%!”

We here at the Hub are lucky enough to have a small Chinese following, but did you know that ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ are actually very popular in China? Aside from obtaining the show through Torrents and Downloads, there is an active Chinese FanBoard, a large contingency of fans on the Chinese version of Twitter Weibo.com, and even a man named Mr. Gu (and many others) who have dubbed a number of American talk show sketches, including ‘The Colbert Report’ and ‘The Daily Show’ into Chinese.

To all of the Chinese Hubsters out there 欢迎!!

** Update: A big thanks to Hubster Lushi for sending in these links to some of the Chinese TDS and TCR fansites. The pages can be translated into English using the Google Translate add-on:

Stephen made an appearance on the most recent episode of House, in a sort of picture form. I’m not sure I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

Credit goes to canadianicehole by way of f-yeahstevejonandstephen on tumblr!

As you may already know, Dr. House’s picture graces the set of The Colbert Report, and a picture of Stephen has been seen behind Dr. House’s desk. (h/t to the NFZ archives)
