The State (South Carolina’s Homepage™) recently had an emailed conversation with Mr. Colbert to follow up with the op-ed written by Stephen Colbert and published just before the holiday break. In their new article, titled, “Colbert: ‘We Sponsor Bowl Games; Why Not the Primary?’” by Andrew Shain, they give us the skinny on Stephen’s wheelings and dealings down south.
Why not just give the money to the Election Commission and bypass the state GOP so the money can go to the counties without party interference?
That’s exactly what I offered in my editorial. You should really read your own paper sometime. If you can’t afford the cover price, you can get the whole thing online for free!
Would you be willing to give the money without getting the naming rights and non-binding referendum?
I’m open to other offers of equal or greater value!
Why not just give the money without any strings if you want to help counties that are struggling financially?
I wouldn’t want to insult the Republican primary by offering a handout. I believe in the free market; that’s why I’m not even giving you these answers for free. Expect my invoice in the mail.
If not the naming rights and referendum, I would settle for holding “The Stephen Colbert South Carolina Serious, Classy Republican Debate.” Moderated by me and the Dog Whisperer. Nat Geo Wild, Animal Planet and Buddy Roemer are all on board. You pass on this, I’m offering it to Florida.

“I was just walking by the TV just a moment ago, and CNN had up, ‘The buzz on the e-cigarette,’ and you had people debating e-cigarettes and I thought, ‘What’s an e-cigarette and why do I care?’” Colbert says. “But if I had just accepted what was on the screen, I would feel like an idiot for not making that a priority.” Continue reading “The Charleston City Paper Talks to Stephen Colbert About the Sad State of Politics and Cable News.” »

On Friday, the comedian, actor and Charlestonian Stephen Colbert will appear at the Gaillard Auditorium for a benefit to raise money for an endowed chair in his father’s name at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. James W. Colbert served as the university’s first vice president for academic affairs from 1969 until his death in a plane crash in 1974. The school, which also named its education center after Dr. Colbert, calls him a “transformative figure” that helped MUSC adopt the traditions of academic medicine. His son, host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” spoke with Post and Courier columnist Brian Hicks about the benefit, his recent participation in the Charleston Bermuda Race and, of course, South Carolina politics.
