In all the tumult of the past few days, perhaps it has been overlooked that October 31st is a day devoted to fun and general spookiness. However you may celebrate the holiday, there are ways to do so in proper, Stephen Colbert-centric fashion. Here’s a couple tips.
Carve yourself a nice Stephen Jack-o-Lantern
Go and download yourself a nice Stephen Colbert stencil, grab a good sized, hollowed out pumpkin, and get to work! A few deft turns of a paring knife, and voila! Presto Stephen. Your satirically-savvy trick or treaters will thank you –or rather their parents.
Get over to Better Homes and Gardens and download the stencil here. The end result is handsomely terrifying….

Jim Hoskinson goes over notes with stage manager Mark McKenna about what to expect in that day’s show.
The style and grammar of the show has not changed much. In fact, Hoskinson’s first Emmy nomination (he has seven and a DGA Award nomination) was for only the tenth show they did. “Stephen’s character was born full-grown,” says Hoskinson. “Everybody understood from the beginning what his character was going to sound like, what he would say, what he would look like. I still find that first Emmy nomination kind of amazing. Stephen’s voice was so clear to him, the writers, and to me, which is the central factor in the early success of the show—we were all on the same page.”
From a directorial perspective, Hoskinson still had some things to learn. After all, this was a comedy show, not a news broadcast, which called for a different way of interacting with on-camera talent.
“In terms of The Colbert Report, doing news and doing entertainment are very different,” explains Hoskinson. “Stephen was much more comfortable in front of the camera than I had been used to. News people have a seriousness of purpose, and as a rule aren’t as comfortable in front of the camera because they’re not playing to it. They’re about delivering the news. Stephen was able to engage the camera in a way that I thought was pretty remarkable, and still do. That makes it a lot easier for me. We just have to follow what he does accurately, and good things happen.”

Due to Hurricane Sandy, Comedy Central’s late night lineup of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “Colbert Report” have canceled Monday tapings.
The cancellation comes as Jimmy Kimmel, who traveled to Brooklyn for a week of shows, was forced to cancel Monday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after previously planning to march ahead with the taping.
Both of those shows tape in midtown Manhattan, a heavy pedestrian area that is easily accessible to audience members. “Daily Show,” “Colbert” and “Kimmel” are all taped in more remote areas that would be difficult to reach as public transportation is currently shut down in New York City.
Well, EW has put the rumor swirling around a potential Colbert cameo directly to Hobbit director Peter Jackson—and Jackson isn’t denying it! Then again, he isn’t confirming it. “I read that, too—it was very, very interesting,” Jackson says, laughing. “It’s yet to be confirmed or denied.” Jackson will, however, confirm one thing: Colbert is a serious Tolkien fanatic: “I have never met a bigger Tolkien geek in my life,” Jackson says. “Philippa Boyens is our resident Tolkien expert, and when Stephen came down to visit the set, we put him head to head with Philippa on a Tolkien quiz—and Stephen triumphed. I have to say, his encyclopedic knowledge of Tolkien is spectacular, and points to a deprived childhood in some respects.”
