David Javerbaum, former TDS Executive Producer and author of “The Last Testament: A Memoir by God”, has written an essay for The New York Times entitled “A Quantum Theory of Mitt Romney”.

THE recent remark by Mitt Romney’s senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom that upon clinching the Republican nomination Mr. Romney could change his political views “like an Etch A Sketch” has already become notorious. The comment seemed all too apt, an apparent admission by a campaign insider of two widely held suspicions about Mitt Romney: that he is a) utterly devoid of any ideological convictions and b) filled with aluminum powder. The imagery may have been unfortunate, but Mr. Fehrnstrom’s impulse to analogize is understandable. Metaphors like these, inexact as they are, are the only way the layman can begin to grasp the strange phantom world that underpins the very fabric of not only the Romney campaign but also of Mitt Romney in general. For we have entered the age of quantum politics; and Mitt Romney is the first quantum politician.

Credit goes to canadianicehole by way of f-yeahstevejonandstephen on tumblr!

As you may already know, Dr. House’s picture graces the set of The Colbert Report, and a picture of Stephen has been seen behind Dr. House’s desk. (h/t to the NFZ archives)

Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick has written a wonderful article about Stephen Colbert’s effect on the public’s view of Citizens United.

“The Supreme Court has always had its critics. Chief Justice John Marshall had to contend with the temper of President Andrew Jackson (“John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!”). And Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes went toe-to-toe with FDR, who wouldn’t let up with the court-packing. But in the history of the Supreme Court, nothing has ever prepared the justices for the public opinion wrecking ball that is Stephen Colbert. The comedian/presidential candidate/super PAC founder has probably done more to undermine public confidence in the court’s 2010 Citizens United opinion than anyone, including the dissenters. In this contest, the high court is supremely outmatched.” Read more.
