Intro – 9/16/13
“Tonight, are Americans abusing the Social safety net? And can I be the one that loads them into the Social safety cannon? Then, controversy at the Miss America pageant. Miss North Dakota’s talent was fracking. … And my guest Andrew Bacevich is a retired Army Colonel who believes in mandatory National service. I will dodge the interview by fleeing to Canada.
NPR is cutting it’s staff by 10%, so enjoy this week’s edition of ‘Wait, Wait, Don’t Fire Me’! This is The Colbert Report.”
Lehman Brothers Anniversary & Economic Recovery
Stephen got a cake for the 5th anniversary of the Lehman Bros collapse that brought about the world financial crisis of 2008. It’s a bunch of cakes bundled and sold as a derivative.
“Fair warning, there may be some poop in there…but it’s mostly cake” (mouths “It’s not cake”)
It’s been five years but not much has changed.
“It seems like just yesterday that bankers were taking unlimited risks with America’s money, because they were also doing it yesterday.”
It turns out 95% of the income gains that were made since the collapse of ’08, were made by the 1%.
Fun fact: I will never get that image of Miley Cyrus out of my head now that it’s in there. (shiver)
The Word – The Guilted Age
Conservative pundits are calling welfare recipients moochers and think we should stigmatize recipients of food stamps. What else is new?
From O’Reilly Factor:
Geraldo: You know what can be considered disability…your back hurts or you have a mood disorder.
Bill: Mood disorder?
Stephen: A mood disorder?? I mean who has a mood disorder?
cue:
BRILLIANT!!
Last few shows, Stephen and crew have gotten really edgy and that’s saying something considering it’s always been an edgy show. Consider this below, referring to disabled people drowning after being thrown in a river.
WOW!
A man in Portland sent out flyers to residents of some neighborhoods in the area, in which he threatened to list all the names of the people who receive disability benefits so the taxpayers will all know who they are. Lovely.
For some reason, he thinks they shouldn’t be allowed to vote. Nice witch hunt.
Miss America 2013
A little eye candy for just about everyone in this cap. YAY!! Character break!
The winner of Miss America 2013 is a woman of Indian descent, yet it didn’t stop anyone from calling her a Muslim extremist terrorist.
Someone in the media who is not relevant, interviewed someone else in the public eye who is not relevant about the tattoos on the Miss America contestants. He doesn’t think they should have tattoos.
“Clearly Donald Trump doesn’t believe in any body modification. He has not changed a thing since the day he was born. He is still babbling unintelligibly and covered in orange goo.”
Andrew Bacevich
Mr Bacevich thinks that young people should be required to either serve in the military or around the country and in their communities. It will reduce the number of wars. I doubt it. The rich will just get out of service.
Stephen makes a good point about having our military invade our military complex to bring democracy to our military.
Stephen: Do you think our present military system is democratic?
Andrew: I think it is fundamentally undemocratic.
Stephen: If our military system is undemocratic then my instinct is to have our military invade our military system to bring democracy to it.
He’s not necessarily in favor of the draft, but rather a National Service requirement. It’s a great idea, but even he acknowledges it would be a tough sell.
He doesn’t like it when people say “Thanks for your service” to military members. You should do more than just say thanks.
Good guest!
