Welcome to the ‘Six Degrees Catch Up Edition’ featuring all the latest happenings and goings on in the world of ‘Daily Show’ and ‘Colbert Report’ staff and ‘Friends of the Show’.

In this month’s catch up we have interviews from Jessica Williams and Travon Free, a new humour piece from Frank Lesser, casting and pilot news from Aasif Mandvi, Kristen Schaal and Conan O’Brien, and Amy Sedaris guest stars in ‘Alpha House’, and has also released a new series of rabbit care videos.

  • Aasif Mandvi has been cast in HBO’s comedy pilot, ‘The Brink’, an epic dark comedy that focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men. Mandvi will play a young Pakistani employed by the US Embassy, whose love of America runs as deep as his resentment.
  • Adam Lowitt, Jennifer Flanz and Steve Bodow have been named as the new executive producers of ‘The Daily Show’ after Rory Albanese announced his departure.
  • Daily Show editor, Daric Schlesselman has put his skills and experience in improvisation and creativity into his one-man distillery in Red Hook, where he recently spoke about the art and process of the brew with ‘The Village Voice.’
  • Jessica Williams is featured in Oprah.com’s ‘O Libs’, in which she speaks about finding comedy, down time on ‘The Daily Show’, and her favourite place in the world.
  • Josh Lieb has been named as Jimmy Fallon’s new producer on both ‘Late Night’ and ‘The Tonight Show’, after Amy Ozols, the longtime producer of ‘Late Night’ stepped down.
  • Kristen Schaal and Rich Blomquist have sold ‘American Monster’, to ABC. The comedy centres around a small-town misfit who becomes an unlikely celebrity when she goes on trial for the murder of the century, and intended as a starring vehicle for Schaal, who will co-write the script with Blomquist.
  • Travon Free is featured on Episode 29 of ‘Writers’ Bloc Podcast.’

Friends of the Show

  • Amy Sedaris and rabbit expert Mary Cotter have created a forty nine part series of informative video guides on taking care of a pet rabbit.
  • Amy Sedaris recently guest starred on two episodes of ‘Alpha House’ – ‘Triggers’ and ‘Hippo Issues’ – as part of a multiple episode guest role.
  • Conan O’Brien has sold the multi-camera buddy comedy ‘I Knew You When’ to Fox. The show centres around the bumpy road to success, told from the dual perspectives of two old men who have achieved fame and fortune.
  • The Yellow Ribbon Fund has been named as one of the winners of the ’2013 Top-Rated Award’ from GreatNonprofits.
