Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert is the surprise guest at this year’s House Democratic retreat, Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra told members on Thursday according to a source.

Colbert was invited by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, her office confirmed. While Pelosi has been interviewed by Colbert on his show, ‘The Colbert Report,’ in the past, this time she will conduct a question and answer session in front of an audience of Democratic members.

Colbert’s character on his show is a conservative pundit.

“We assume this is Stephen Colbert’s attempt at bipartisanship,” said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.

The appearance is closed to members of the press.
