When news stories fall through the cracks, we here at Colbert News Hub find them for a post we call, In The Press.
Hello hubsters! It’s been a little while, but I’m (finally) here with the February edition. What’s particularly interesting to me in putting these monthly press recaps together is noticing the ways in which the show is rapidly changing. One thing they’ve done a lot more of in the past few weeks is opening the show with a short film, or a musical number, or an oddly endearing sketch with Steve Martin instead of the monologue, which gives a great energy to those episodes. And they just seem to be including more pre-taped pieces and sketches in general. Despite these changes, a lot of the arguments made in the articles you’ll find here, whether positive or negative, still hold. I’ve already mentioned my frustration with the lack of point of view in the political segments and interviews, and you’ll find similar claims in some of these articles. One of the most interesting arguments also talks about how Stephen should perhaps embrace rather than distance himself from aspects of his character that were really, perhaps, aspects of his own personality. You’ll also find, among other things, February ratings stats, a video about the lighting of the Ed Sullivan Theater, and a behind-the-scenes look at Stephen’s short appearance at the Grammys.

TV Ratings: Super Bowl 50 Steady With Second-Best Overnight Ever
The post-game outing of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show naturally set an all-time high for the host’s CBS tenure, but early ratings have it performing below recent shows to get that time slot. Colbert averaged 21.1 million viewers and a 8.4 rating among adults 18-49. That’s off from the last two series — The Blacklist (26.5 million and a 8.7 demo rating in 2015), New Girl (25.8 million and a 11.1 demo rating in 2014) — to air after the Super Bowl, but better than CBS’ last go in the slot (Elementary took 20.8 million viewers and a 7.8 demo rating in 2014).
The Late Late Show With James Corden brought a franchise high with nearly 5 million viewers and a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49.

1, 28, 87, hut, hut, hike it on over to CBS on Sunday for the ‘Live Late Show Super Bowl Special’!
Hello Hubsters! The special ‘Live Super Bowl Episode’ is rapidly approaching! We here at the Hub wanted to commemorate this special event, so we have decided to do a Late Show Pool. Everyone knows that when it comes to the Super Bowl there is always a pool, whether it’s at work, or among friends, one and all can join in the pool to place their bets and predict what will happen in the Super Bowl.
We at the Hub decided to run a pool about the special Live Late Show. This is how it will work: the Hub staff has come up with many predictions for the show. For example, will Stephen wear a gold suit? Will Tina Fey and Stephen talk about “The Second City”? We have created a Hub pool, anyone who wants to join, can simply post their name, email, and up to ten prediction(s) in the comment section.
Oh, and did I mention there is a prize involved?, Yes! whoever gets the most predictions correct will win a ‘Late Show’ mug, courtesy of the Hub. The sign up sheet will be available soon, and will close at 10pm EST the day of the Super Bowl. So place your bets, and get ready to watch the show live on CBS directly after the Super Bowl this Sunday!

On the heels of the wonderfully-needed recent Colbert interview in Adweek, the magazine has followed up with two additional articles with items that could not be included in the original piece. Stephen discusses having potential sidekicks, plans for his Colbeard, hating being off the air, his ambivalence about sports, and his relief at not having to pretend to be a conservative blowhard anymore. A second article is dedicated to how Jon Stewart is impacting Colbert’s new organization. Enjoy!

Stephen Colbert is featured on the cover of the February 1, 2016 edition of ‘Adweek‘ Magazine. In the special Super Bowl issue, Stephen discusses why ‘The Late Show’ will air live from New York following Super Bowl 50, and not from San Francisco where the match is taking place, what’s in store for the live episode, how the show has changed since its debut last September, if there is pressure to create viral content, and are there any plans to collaborate with James Corden and ‘The Late Late Show’ in the future.
Plus, check out this fantastic interactive Google map of the Ed Sullivan Theatre.

“It’s been a very big year in late night at CBS,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “We’re extremely proud of our two new late night franchises, and we’re thrilled to give Stephen and James this big Super Bowl Sunday showcase.”

You’ve seen Stephen Colbert crack open his head, now step inside his mind. Catch the star of Wonderful Pistachios’ Big Game Ad on the set as he shares his thoughts on nuts, football and, of course, eagles.
Well, Superbowl time is here, Hubsters, and so are Stephen’s commercials. They are pretty clever! If you can count all the pistachios in Stephen’s “library,” you could win $100,000. That ought to get people paying attention (and counting). Enjoy, and good luck! Here are parts 1 and 2 together:
