When news stories fall through the cracks, we here at Colbert News Hub find them for a post we call, In The Press.
Hello hubsters! It’s been a little while, but I’m (finally) here with the February edition. What’s particularly interesting to me in putting these monthly press recaps together is noticing the ways in which the show is rapidly changing. One thing they’ve done a lot more of in the past few weeks is opening the show with a short film, or a musical number, or an oddly endearing sketch with Steve Martin instead of the monologue, which gives a great energy to those episodes. And they just seem to be including more pre-taped pieces and sketches in general. Despite these changes, a lot of the arguments made in the articles you’ll find here, whether positive or negative, still hold. I’ve already mentioned my frustration with the lack of point of view in the political segments and interviews, and you’ll find similar claims in some of these articles. One of the most interesting arguments also talks about how Stephen should perhaps embrace rather than distance himself from aspects of his character that were really, perhaps, aspects of his own personality. You’ll also find, among other things, February ratings stats, a video about the lighting of the Ed Sullivan Theater, and a behind-the-scenes look at Stephen’s short appearance at the Grammys.

Hi Hubsters! Can you believe two months have already passed since the premiere? Things seem to be settling down at The Late Show With Starring Stephen Colbert. The shows are becoming much more consistent and I already see some favorite regular segments emerge (personal favorites: Bedtime Stories and The Hungry For Power Games).
But let’s get right to it, because there are a lot of articles this month! The media has been paying a lot of attention to The Late Show’s unique blend of guests, so you’ll find a bunch of articles about that. You’ll find quotes by Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel weighing in on how Stephen has been doing so far. There’s a lot of talk of ad revenue and ratings of course. There are people getting angry at Stephen including the usual suspect, Fox News. There’s also a great article by someone who knew Stephen at The Second City, and a fun article about “achievement beards.”

Two months left Nation, two! After months of getting only scarce evidence that Stephen was still alive, June came around and brought us a new website and lots and lots of things to look forward to every week. From videos, to podcasts, ‘press releases’, polls and tweets—we’ve been truly spoiled! This month’s edition of In The Press covers, among other things, anticipation for The Late Show, some more articles on the business side of late-night, and the upcoming Emmy nominations.

With April behind us, there are only four months left until Late Show with Stephen Colbert starts! (!!) Sadly, that also means there are only three months left of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. For now though, the good news is that Jon has been giving new interviews, and those are always a treat!
In this edition of In The Press, we also catch up with The Nightly Show and The Late Late Show, the new kids on the block of late-night TV, who are still trying to find their footing, as well as their audience. Have you guys been watching either (or both) show(s) regularly?
Finally, late night writers talk about improv and submitting writing packets… and stir up some controversy!
