CBS and the Television Academy today announced that Emmy® Award winner Stephen Colbert, the multi-talented host of THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, will host the 69th PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS, marking his first time as master of ceremonies for the event. The Emmy Awards will be broadcast LIVE from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 17 (8:00-11:00PM, live ET/5:00-8:00PM live PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“We’re excited to kick off the new season and celebrate the top achievements in television with Stephen Colbert as host of the PRIMETIME EMMYS,” said Jack Sussman, executive vice president, specials, music and live events, CBS Entertainment. “Stephen is the ultimate master of ceremonies with award-winning creative talents, and as we’ve seen the past few months, he has a fearless passion for live television. The Television Academy has announced changes to the rules governing entry into the various Primetime Emmy Awards categories. The changes are designed to better “reflect the increasingly varied and expanding television landscape.” The most notable change affecting ‘The Colbert Report’ and the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ is the division of the “Variety Series” category:
Split of Variety Series Category: The Variety Series category is now split – Outstanding Variety Talk, to be awarded during the Primetime Emmy telecast, and Outstanding Variety Sketch, to be included in the Creative Arts Emmy program.
Barry Manilow talks to ‘The Desert Sun‘ about taking part in the ‘Colbert Report’ final, and details how the massive star-studded sing-along was meticulously planned and performed.
“There were around 100 famous (REALLY) famous people there,” he told me by e-mail this weekend. “I was told that Stephen had chosen only his favorite guests. I couldn’t have been more honored to be included in that stellar group.”

When Stephen made a reference to the fact that he only has one female writer, as he accepted his Emmy in August, for “Outstanding Variety Show”, he then apologized, “for some reason”. What I thought he was trying to say when he said that was actually more the opposite. I don’t think he should have to apologize at all. He has done nothing wrong. However, many people in the media seem to disagree judging by the number of recent articles commenting on that one line in his Emmy acceptance speech. So we here at the Hub have delved into this issue, analyzed it and here are the results.
