In honor of David Letterman leaving, but still keeping it all about Stephen, I have come up with a top ten list. This is the top ten guests that never appeared on The Colbert Report, that should now appear on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in September. People that for whatever reason never appeared on the Report, but that I personally would love, love, love to see together with Stephen now that he is in the big leagues.
This is my list, but who would you Hubsters put on your lists? Discuss in the comments. I may just have to change my list if you guys come up with some good names.
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon premiere.
He’s Robert DeNiro. He’s not the easiest get. He would be great on the show with Stephen. He’s got a good sense of humor. He’s Robert DeNiro, what more needs to be said?
I’d love to see Stephen blushing. Julie is a self-professed Stephen fangirl. Hey, he had Paulina Porizkova on and that was just adorable. Why not have Julie on?
Seth MacFarlane on The Daily Show
They both sing. Anytime Stephen can sing with his guests is a good thing. In compiling this list I went through guests from The Daily Show. I’ve always been curious as to why people would appear on TDS, but not on TCR. Maybe Seth didn’t want to be on with Stephen in character? I love Seth and I think they could do something fun together.
Dana Carvey on The Tonight Show. nbc.com.
Stephen has talked a lot about his time on The Dana Carvey Show in interviews and I would love to hear stories from the man himself. Dana was one of my favorite cast members from SNL. Other people who worked on the show, like Robert Smigel and Louis CK would be good too.
- Former Daily Show correspondents
Mo Rocca, Rob Riggle, Rob Corddry, Ed Helms etc. Again, love to hear stories from those days at The Daily Show. Preferably true ones, but untrue funny stories would be good too, I guess. Yes, of course I want to see Steve Carell and Jon but they have appeared on the Report. This is just people who have not been on with Stephen before.
The man needs to come on to thank Stephen profusely.
If for no other reason than she can reveal who the ladies man was. But also, because she’s awesome and why would you not want her on? She’s wonderful.
This is definitely a long shot, but who knows? The Dalai Lama is a great man and very interested in science. I really think they would have a lot to talk about. It seemed like Stephen’s interest in Buddhism was piqued a little bit after the talk with Richard Gere at the Montclair Film Festival. I would watch with great interest.
Of course. I wonder perhaps, if not for a whole sit-down interview, but maybe a walk-on? Johnny Carson walked on to Letterman’s show after he retired and it was classic. It would certainly be a special treat whether it’s for a whole interview or just a walk-on. Seems like this has to happen.
The #1 is not necessarily the most important, absolutely impossible to get, never gonna happen, kind of guest. It’s just the person I want to see with Stephen more than anyone else out there.
Like, oh my god!! I don’t know if I could handle it. I used to have such a huge crush on Ewan. I always hoped he would come on the Report. He is kind of selective about the shows he does. He never appeared on Letterman for a long long time, until more recently. He is a funny guy and great at singing and a pretty good dancer. To see them together is something I’ve envisioned for a long time and I would call out sick, rent a bus, even walk there if I had to, to be able to see it in person. However, I’d be satisfied seeing it on TV.
Turns out it was hard to limit this to just ten people so I have a long list of honorable mentions:
- Will Ferrell
- Bob Odenkirk and David Cross
- Howard Stern, although I would so much rather see Stephen on Howard’s show
- Jon Hamm
- Craig Ferguson
- Betty White
- George Clooney
- Ricky Gervais
- Mike Tyson
- John Cleese
- Dick Cavett
- Robert Downey Jr.
People who have been on before but really need to come on again:
Larry King-to be interviewed by the real Stephen. For this reason. (skip to 35:40 in the video)
- Jane Fonda needs to come on and do a normal interview
- Diane Keaton, same thing
One final musical guest:
- Daft Punk. Do I really need to say why?
