Looking forward to another edition of the “cOlbert Book Club.”
Stop by CNH’s Water Cooler, where fellow Hubsters commiserate and comment on current events, or whatever you like, while our boys Jon and Stephen are away.
Hey Hubsters! Hope you are all fairing well on this two week break. As we prepare for summer’s last hurrah this Labor Day weekend, and the children are scurrying back to class, we are also anticipating the Return of Jon Stewart. I hope our bearded friend will be refreshed and ready for another go around at TDS studios, as we have missed him so. I wonder how John Oliver will settle back into correspondent role, after doing such an admirable job as interim host. What do you think?
In Stephen’s world, we have another “cOlbert’s Book Club” episode coming up on September 10th; I wonder if they will metamorphose the set again, as they did with The Great Gatsby show. It’s going to be hard to top that episode, but undoubtedly Stephen will. Have you all been reading something from Salinger (but not Catcher?)
Also the Emmys on September 22nd. (Collective groaning.) Yes, I know, I know, not typically our favorite night in the TCR fandom, but perhaps we can stomach another viewing and see if we can get a writing award at least. Something to cross our fingers for, right? As The Colbert Report achieves its eighth anniversary on October 17th, perhaps Emmy will see to it that this stellar program is properly honored. Either way we hardcore fans will still be here.

There have been many mysteries to ponder throughout time. The ancient pyramids. Stonehenge. Crop Circles. Unidentified Flying Objects.
And Stephen’s Colbert’s band aids.
It all started out on the calm, spring evening of April 29, 2013. It was a night like any other. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and life carried on without a care. Until 11:30pmEST. This is when it all changed!
Spotted! Three, visibly placed band aids on Stephen’s fingers. Two on his left hand and one on his right! What could it mean? Initially, yes, it was questionable. One band aid, fine! A paper cut. But three? But still, people cut themselves. Life happens. Okay, move on … nothing more to see here …

The French electro-pop duo made a “surprise” appearance during Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, weeks after Stephen Colbert spoiled the secret after the group were no-shows on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. (Viacom owns both MTV and Comedy Central.)
While there was speculation that the group would take the stage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to perform, the duo instead joined “Get Lucky” collaborators Pharrell Williams and Niles Rodgers to present best female video to Taylor Swift.
Instead, the audience was treated to a snippet of the “Lose Yourself to Dance” music video prior to their introduction.
In an interview earlier this month, Colbert spoke openly about the difficulties of nailing down the reclusive group, revealing that he and the writers worked for weeks to find a common ground, which did not end up panning out.
“Ultimately, I would say, I understand that the VMAs have got their own rules, and Daft Punk, that’s a big important thing to have done,” Colbert said during the interview, “but I’m the guy who’s completely screwed here. I don’t have a show tonight.”
VMA’s executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic, told The Hollywood Reporter that ultimately the decision was made by the group and its management not to appear on The Colbert Report.
“We don’t put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we’re talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change,” he said at the time. “I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people — it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do.”

Haven’t seen Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Company’ on the big screen yet? Well you’re in luck, the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe, Vermont, will air a special screening of the film on Saturday, August 31st (2013) at 7:30PM.
Tickets: $12
Can’t make it to the screening? Don’t worry, the performance is still available for purchase on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Howard Stern has branched out into TV and is now a judge on the TV show America’s Got Talent. If you don’t listen to his radio show, then you probably don’t know that he has the tendency to complain about anything and everything. Last week on Howard’s Sirius radio show, a caller asked about the “America’s Got Talent” taping with Stephen. In typical Howard fashion, he lamented having to be involved with something outside of the regular AGT show taping, however, he did say some nice things, I assure you.
His beef wasn’t as much with our hero, as it was with the AGT schedule itself and all the extra things that it involves like bits and interviews that aren’t for the actual show, and that they spring on him at the last minute.
As a former avid Howard listener, I can attest to this fact: Stephen got off light. It could’ve been way worse.
