An O.C. Minuteman who put the border-watch movement on the map is taking The Colbert Report to the Campo, Calif. border.

Minuteman Project Founder Jim Gilchrist said he’ll appear on Stephen Colbert’s television show, The Colbert Report, after taking the political humorist and his crew on a tour of the border in mid-March.

A spokeswoman with Comedy Central confirmed that the field team did go to the Campo border with Gilchrist and other anti-illegal immigrant activists, but said they have not determined when the show will air.

Gilchrist, of Aliso Viejo, said he couldn’t get into specifics of what he was asked, but did say the crew shot for six hours during the March 15 tour.

“They’re going to make a series of the shows dealing with the immigration issue,” he said.

This won’t be the first time Gilchrist has appeared on the show, which features Colbert’s conservative alter ego. The satirist, who plays a conservative political pundit, hosted Gilchrist in 2006, a year after the Minuteman Project launched in Arizona — forcing the immigration issue into the forefront of American politics.

Gilchrist said he had no qualms about participating in the show, despite its liberal leanings.

“He’s really hilarious,” Gilchrist said of Colbert. “He’s a very nice man.”

Colbert has taken on the subject of illegal immigration several times on his show and even testified in 2010 before a Congressional immigration hearing.

When news stories fall through the cracks, we here at Colbert News Hub catch it for a post we call “In the Press”.

The media has taken a strong look at Stephen’s satirical influence over the political process and they are all a buzz about it. Of course, his brief absence from the show caused nearly as much press as his most genius satirical stunts. It’s been an odd couple of months In The Press and this post will follow suit. The format may be different but the media frenzy remains the same.
