In Weekend News: Donald Trump wrote an abhorrent tweet on Saturday writing, “Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!” One of Trump’s managers, Kellyanne Conway, went on “Fox News Sunday” and did not defend her boss, telling Chris Wallace, “That horrifying example, of a woman who had just signed up her children for school pushing a baby stroller, that is a nonpartisan issue that should sicken us all.”

Beyoncé gave a stunning performance at the Video Music Awards on Sunday and the internet is fired up with a lot of love for her!

Riz Ahmed (Actor – “The Night Of”)

Riz Ahmed, also known as Riz MC, is an English actor and rapper who is known for his work in films such as “The Road to Guantanamo,” “Four Lions,” and “Nightcrawler.” Ahmed currently stars on the HBO eight-part crime drama miniseries “The Night Of” as Nasir Khan, a Pakistani-American college student accused of murdering a girl on the Upper West Side of New York City. “It sings. Mournfully, triumphantly, poignantly, of failed dreams and second chances; of the simple mistakes that accumulate into tragedy, of the cold calculations required by redemption. But mostly it sings of itself, an anthem to television’s unique power to turn a series of understated performances into sustained magnificence,” raves The Los Angeles Times. And Variety proclaims, “‘The Night Of’ is compulsively watchable and extraordinarily rewarding, a brilliant and addictive mystery that inspires the viewer to go back and watch the same scenes again, looking for subtler character beats and hidden clues.” The final episode of “The Night Of” airs August 28th at 9:00PM EST on HBO.

Pedro Pascal (Actor – “Narcos“)

Pedro Pascal is a Chilean-born American actor who is best known for portraying the role of Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” He currently stars as a DEA agent on the Netflix series “Narcos,” which tells the story of notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and the infamous Medellín drug cartel. “Where season 1 spanned 10 years, season 2 captures Escobar’s last days on the loose. Each tightly packed episode moves quickly without sacrificing richness, chronicling the uneasy alliances and gross tactics employed to snare Escobar,” writes Entertainment Weekly. And The Philadelphia Inquirer raves, “Intense, enlightening, brilliant, unnerving, and addictive, ‘Narcos’ is high-concept drama at its finest.” Season two of “Narcos” will be available to stream on Netflix on September 2nd.

Angel Olsen (Album – “My Woman”)

Angel Olsen is an American folk and indie rock singer and guitarist. Her upcoming album is “My Woman.” Consequence of Sound reports, “The drastic shift to ‘60s and ‘70s rock funnels her influences into a bowl: the aftertaste of country twang, the guitar-centered solos of early classic rock, the belted vocals of someone on a road trip.” And The Chicago Tribune raves, “Olsen’s songwriting has a way of undressing emotions, and she’s got a voice that holds nothing back. Now she’s made an album that sounds far bolder than anything she’s released so far.” “My Woman” drops on September 2nd.

The big difference is he pulls it off with uncommon humor and compassion,” writes Rolling Stone. And The Film Stage reports, “Krasinski appears to know exactly the kind of movie he’s making, elevating familiar material to a level that feels real and bittersweet.” “The Hollars” is now playing in theaters.

Adam Brody (Actor – “Yoga Hosers”)

Adam Brody is an American film and television actor and musician who is best known for his role as Seth Cohen on the television series “The O.C.” His film credits include “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Thank You for Smoking,” and “In the Land of Women.” Brody’s latest film is “Yoga Hosers,” a horror comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith. Two 15-year-old yoga enthusiasts join forces with a legendary man-hunter (played by Johnny Depp) to battle Canadian Nazis who take the form of deadly sausages. Brody plays Ichabod, an amateur drummer and friend of the yoga enthusiasts. “‘Yoga Hosers’ is a movie that feels like it was more fun to make than to watch,” writes Screen International. And New York Magazine states, “‘Yoga Hosers’ is the best film Kevin Smith has made in a long time, which admittedly isn’t saying much. But this new cult comedy-thriller may well represent a turning point for the writer-director.” “Yoga Hosers” opens in US theaters on September 2nd.

St. Paul and The Broken Bones is a six-piece soul band composed of Paul Janeway, Browan Lollar, Jesse Phillips, Andrew Lee, Al Gamble, and Allen Branstetter. This year the series received six Primetime Emmy nominations for the upcoming award ceremony in September, including Outstanding Drama Series. “‘Mr. Robot’ is compulsively watchable and interesting. It’s a reminder that even the most well-worn cliches can still work with the right execution,” writes Hitfix. And Newsday raves, “[Showrunner and creator Sam Esmail is] a Kafka in the director’s chair, who sees alienation where everyone else sees a Facebook ‘like.’ It’s as compelling and timely a vision as there is in a primetime series at the moment, and darkness is the price of admission.” “Mr. Robot” airs Wednesdays at 10:00PM EST on USA Network.

Congressman John Lewis (Author – “March: Book Three”)

John Lewis is an American politician, activist, and civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation. Lewis, who as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), was one of the “Big Six” leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington where Martin Luther King, Jr. made his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Stephen Colbert has a pennant from the historical day, which his mother attended while pregnant with Stephen. On June 22, 2016, House Democrats, led by Lewis and Massachusetts Representative Katherine Clark, began a sit-in demanding House Speaker Paul Ryan allow a vote on gun safety legislation in the aftermath of the Pulse nightclub shooting. Lewis wrote a trilogy of graphic novels about the 1963 March on Washington. “March: Book Three” was released in August. “An incredible accomplishment. It is the history of John Lewis, the civil rights movement and his role in it … a book that explains – more deeply than anything else I’ve ever read – the methods and the moral foundations of the civil rights movement, how civil rights activists did what they did and won what they won, and how they had the strength to do it in the most difficult circumstances imaginable,” raves Rachel Maddow. And Trevor Noah proclaims, “I cannot recommend this book enough.”

Chris Geere (Actor – “You’re the Worst“)

Chris Geere is an English actor perhaps best known for his role as King Edvard/Eddie in the “The Prince and Me” sequels, and for playing the lead role in the FXX comedy series “You’re the Worst.” The series follows Jimmy (played by Geere), a self-involved writer, and Gretchen, a self-destructive Los Angeles PR executive, as these two toxic personalities attempt a relationship. “Watching the show’s noxious and damaged narcissists slowly, credibly get over themselves remains an entertaining, worth project. But the start of season 3 isn’t ‘You’re the Worst’ at its best,” writes Entertainment Weekly. And The Philadelphia Inquirer reports, “It all works. Jimmy and Gretchen are horrible people, but they are endearing in their congenital terribleness. They are unlovable, which makes them inherently lovable.” Season three of “You’re the Worst” premieres August 31st on FXX.

The final episode of “The Nightly Show” aired on August 18th. Jon Stewart made an appearance and highly praised Wilmore saying, “Do not confuse cancellation with failure … You gave voice to underserved voices in the media, and … you started a conversation that was not on television when you began.” Wilmore currently serves as an executive producer for the ABC television series “Black-ish.” He is also the co-creator, alongside Issa Rae, of the upcoming HBO series “Insecure,” which is slated to begin in October. According to IndieWire, the eight-episode first season explores the black female experience in an unclichéd and authentic way.

Chris Noth (Actor – “White Girl”)

Chris Noth is an American actor who is known for his television roles as Detective Mike Logan on “Law & Order,” Mr. Big on “Sex and the City,” and Peter Florrick on “The Good Wife.” Noth’s upcoming drama film, “White Girl,” tells the story of a college student who falls hard for a bad boy and then goes to wild extremes to get him back. “Buttons will definitely be pushed by ‘White Girl,’ but after the moral panic hopefully people will still be talking about the film itself,” writes The Guardian. And The Hollywood Reporter states, “Seductive and repellent by turns, it’s a title that will provoke fierce love-or-hate reactions, but there’s no question it augurs the arrival of a powerful, audacious new directorial talent.” “White Girl” opens in US theaters on September 2nd.

Sampha (Single – “Timmy’s Prayer”)

Sampha Sisay, who uses the stage name Sampha, is a British electronic music singer-songwriter and producer. Miraculously, all of the 155 passengers and crew survive the harrowing ordeal, and Sullenberger becomes a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media. Despite the accolades, the famed pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation. “Sully” is based on the autobiography “Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters” by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. Dickerson authored the book “Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History,” which is a ride through the American campaign history with one of its most enthusiastic conductors guiding you through the landmarks along the way. “ʻWhistlestopʼ is entertaining and informative, but it also is a timely reminder for those tempted right now to believe that, with the growing divisions in this country, all is lost. No matter how big the storm that throws us off course, we have a history of righting the ship and steering into calmer waters,” raves The Washington Post. And The National Book Review proclaims, “A gifted chronicler, Dickerson looks back over two centuries of election campaigns and zeros in on flashpoint episodes that somehow reset the collective national narrative.” “Whistlestop” is available now.
