“Skull Juice” Presents ‘Sometimes Live’
Dino Stamatopoulos and Andy Dick’s Feral Audio podcast “Skull Juice” is usually recorded with just the two of them in their studio in Burbank, CA. However, on August 30th, they recorded their show live in New York City at The City Winery, featuring some of comedy’s brightest stars, including Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Louis CK, Robert Smigel, Scott Adsit (“30 Rock”), Michael Stoyanov (“MADtv,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”), and Jeff B. Davis (“Harmontown”). The podcast also includes music by Robbie Fulks.
Back in 1998, Colbert, Stamatopolous, Adsit, Smigel, and Stoyanov wrote a pilot for a sitcom about the behind-the-scenes hijinks at “Saturday Night Live.” Fey was to star and the show was to be called “Sometimes Live.” Even though Fey’s similar hit sitcom “30 Rock” became a show, “Sometimes Live” did not. So the actors who were going to be a part of the canceled project reunited to read the script.

In Weekend News: On Friday evening, vice president-elect Mike Pence attended a showing of “Hamiltion” and the cast used the opportunity to make a statement emphasizing the need for the new administration of president-elect Trump to work on behalf of all Americans. As the play ended, the actor who played Vice President Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, acknowledged that Pence was in the audience, thanked him for attending and stated, “We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.” Not surprisingly, Trump was displeased, tweeting. “The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!” Safe space, Donald? Oh, the irony.

Stephen Colbert will host THE 39TH ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, to be broadcast Tuesday, December 27 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. This will be Colbert’s third year hosting the special, having done so since 2014.
In a star-studded celebration on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, Martha Argerich, Eagles, Al Pacino, Mavis Staples and James Taylor will be saluted by great performers from Hollywood and the arts capitals of the world. Seated with President and Mrs. Obama, the Honorees will accept the thanks of their peers and fans through performances and heartfelt tributes.
The President and Mrs. Obama will receive the Honorees, members of the Artists Committee who nominate them, and the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees at the White House prior to the gala performance taping on Dec. 4. The 2016 Kennedy Center Honors Gala concludes with a supper dance in the Grand Foyer.
The Honors recipients are recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts – whether in dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures or television – and are selected by the Center’s Board of Trustees. The primary criterion in the selection process is excellence. The Honors are not designated by art form or category of artistic achievement; over the years, the selection process has produced a balance among the various arts and artistic disciplines.
