Stephen Colbert Performs and Presents at the 71st Tony Awards

On Sunday, 11 June, 2017, host Kevin Spacey kicked off the 71st Annual Tony Awards at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with a medley of rewritten excerpts from the evening’s nominated musicals. During the opening number, Stephen Colbert featured in a cameo appearance as the groundhog from “Groundhog Day: The Musical” (02:54 – 04:04).

Returning to stage later in the evening to present the Tony Award for “Best Revival of a Musical” (won by “Hello, Dolly!”), Colbert noted that is has been a great year for musical revivals, “especially that one they’re reviving in Washington D.C. It’s supposed to have a four-year-run, but reviews have not been kind. Could close early.”

What did you think of Kevin Spacey’s turn as host? Would you like to see Stephen Colbert host the Tony Awards one day?
