'The Colbert Report' Writer Dan Guterman to Join 'Community'.

Dan Guterman, a ‘Colbert Report’ writer since 2010, is headed off to the West Coast to join the writing staff on the fifth season of ‘Community’.

Dan’s work has appepared in ‘The New Yorker’, ‘McSweeney’s Internet Tendency’ and ‘Care To Make Love In That Gross Little Space Between Cars?: A Believer Book of Advice’. Dan’s has also written for ‘The Onion’ and served as the co-head writer of their second book ‘Our Dumb World: The Onion’s Atlas of the Planet Earth, 73rd Edition’. second book.

Even though “Community” may have two of its most-influential captains back on board for the new season in Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna, there are some other aspects of the show’s production that you have to give consideration to. Namely, we’re talking about the writing staff. There is a pretty big turnover this year as many of the show’s writers left for another series airing on NBC in “The Michael J. Fox Show,” and Megan Ganz, who has written some of our personal favorite episodes of the series’ run (including some of the documentary episodes), is now with “Modern Family.”

So who is joining the gang this year? According to SpoilerTV, the inclusions to the list are Parker Deay and Jordan Blum (“American Dad”), Alex Rubens (“Key & Peele”), Ryan Ridley (who is a part of Harmon’s upcoming Adult Swim series), Dan Guterman (“The Colbert Report”), and Matt Roller (Funny Or Die). It’s a nice array of seemingly-funny people, and the question comes now in seeing how the chemistry is in the writers room, and how that is carried over to the show itself.
